HapPy gO moonshine cherries! That was pretty much the theme for the entire weekend! We had a blast at the Pismo Vintage Trailer Rally. The weather was gorgeous, the trailers were awesome, but for me it was about the people. I made two new friends I'd like to introduce you to, Len, a talented artist, and Lisa, editor at Vintage Trailer Magazine. Meet Len Nordmann. He has been making a living for 65 years by creating art. He said at the age of 10 when he sold his first piece of art he got the bug and has never looked back! He travels all over the United States drawing vintage trailers and cars. I love my Len Nordmann original. Coming soon on a t-shirt! Lisa and I started chatting in the bathroom of all places and I invited her over to our campsite for dinner. She arrived with this lovely bottle of moonshine cherries she had picked up along Route 66 and the rest is history! Nice dinner with friends and of course PIE! This year Wayne made the delicious pies! Saturday morning starts off with a bike parade around the trailer park! Ready for the open house! HapPy gO SmiLe pop up shop! HapPy gO gO! Lisa's darling trailer, Rosie and her Hudson that she has driven all the way across Route 66 with Sister's On The Fly! A few more photos of my favorite trailers and new friends! This is my friend Carl's trailer (or Carol) from Tinker Tin Trailer Co. What a great block party you guys put on Saturday night! Evil was at the party and a few of my favorite Sister's On The Fly! After the Pismo trailer show we took HapPy gO gO out to Cayucos for Lisa to photograph for the July cover of Vintage Trailer Magazine! I'm so grateful to these two guys right here, Jeri and Rick. I have my beautiful trailer, Happy gO gO because they worked 52 Sunday's to restore her. Thank you Guys! XOXO Life is an adventure! I'm inspired by my new friends, Len & Lisa, who are living the life they love by making a living following their passions. Until we meet again...Barb & Betsey
We just returned from Trailerfiesta in Petaluma, California. What a fun trailer show! The theme was carried out all weekend throughout the show, from a pinata making contest to mariachi bands! We headed out early Thursday morning. The 7 hour trip took us through San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge to Petaluma. Sweet donkeys greeted us as we arrived at the KOA Camp. Everyone was in the spirit, even Betsey! Some people made pinatas to match their trailers! Here are a few of my favorite trailers. Enjoy! You know we must have pie! I was so excited to ad to my vintage cherry collection a pie tin! The trailers are amazing, but the people you meet make the show! I wore my Jill Dufau jacket and everyone went nuts! She will be at the Three Speckled Hens Show May 6-7, at the Paso Robles Fairgrounds. We had such a great time I forgot to wax! Next stop the Pismo Beach Vintage Trailer Rally May 20! The public is invited to the Open House from 10-3. Hope to see you there! HapPy gO SmiLe pop up shop! Remember to always always take the scenic route home. We took HWY 1 from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. Make sure to stop at Swanton Berry Farm in Davenport along the way! Adventure on friends...Love, Barb & Betsey
A day of thought-leaders, change-makers, and wisdom teachers! Tamara & I headed out on a 24 hour road trip packed full of inspiration! What an incredible line up! Oprah started off the day by saying, "It's happening to grow you to the next level. Feel it, choose love and freedom." On everyone's seat was an authentic African Djembe drum. YES! We got to play them! Reminding us to always march to the beat of your own drum. Doug Manuel taught us how to beat the drums. With each hit you could feel the vibration throughout your body. The energy in the room lifted your heart. If you ever get a chance to see Doug Manuel's Do You Speak Djembe? don't miss it. What a fun interactive experience! Gary Zukav was next to take the stage. I read his book, The Seat Of The Soul, in 1989 and it changed my life. The 25th anniversary addition has just been released. He reminded us to be in exact alignment with the flow of your soul. Always live life from your authentic self. Glennon Doyle Melton, author of Love Warrior, lit up the stage with her fiery personality! Her message was clear, sit in the center of your pain and feel it, teach me what I need to know. Don't hit that easy button and find a way out. Stay with that grief and learn from it. Choose love. Wes Moore shared with us, "The work that you do is not a conclusion, it is your journey. Your work allows you to realize why you're here. The choices we make about the lives we live determine the kinds of legacies we leave." Gabrielle Bernstein, The Spirit Junkie, was probably my favorite speaker of the day. Ask & listen. Be still. Surrender. " Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait and wait without anxiety." Oh yes I forgot to mention that Usher was sitting a few seats away from us! There were lots of other famous people in the audience as well! This was definitely an audience participation day. Angela Davis had us on our feet for a good workout! I loved Pastor John Gray's message. We all need to meet in the middle. TRUTH! Tony Robbins wrapped up the day. He said now take all of this goodness and put it into action! My favorite thing he said was listen first to your heart. Did you know your heart beats before your brain functions? What an awesome, inspiring day. The common thread in all of the speakers messages was LOVE. just LOVE. From my heart to your heart I send you love <3 Barb Six months ago Jaime and I were sitting around the campfire talking and she said, "would you like to do an art retreat at our new trailer pond at Alta Colina Winery?" The rest is history.... Meet Jaime Holm, owner of Tinker Tin Trailer Co., and Maggie Tillman, part of a father/daughter duo that make Alta Colina Vineyard and Winery an amazing success. "The partnership between Tinker Tin Trailer Co. and Alta Colina began with a combined vision to offer guests a unique and unforgettable experiencing, camping in a vintage trailer in the middle of a beautiful, organically grown vineyard. The Trailer Pond allows two family owned small businesses a chance to share their piece of the American dream while providing guests a one of a kind wine+camping experience." Our first HapPy gO SmiLe ART Retreat started off with a warm welcome from Maggie. She shared with us the history of the vineyard while we enjoyed some wine tasting and appetizers in the barrel room. After wine tasting we were off to the trailers. Everyone was excited to find out which cute, vintage trailer they were staying in! Kiki found her trailer! Cheers! After dinner we had a cupcake toast and s'mores with our wine! Then off to bed we went serenaded by the frog symphony! Rise & shine! In the morning a delicious, catered breakfast by Heirloom Catering was served. After breakfast we took an inspiration walk through the vineyard up to the deck. Time to break out the paints and get messy! Talk about the ultimate wine & paint party! Everyone enjoyed the afternoon creating, laughing, eating cupcakes, and drinking wine! Some even found time for a nap! What a truly magical weekend! Every detail has been thought out on this property, even the bathroom, to ensure you have an awesome experience. HaHaaaa! oh gosh I just might love red gingham a little to much! If you would like to join us for our next HapPy gO ART Retreat, on Oct 6-8, email me at [email protected] to reserve your spot! Keep creating....Barb
What a truly magical day! My friend, Maureen took me on a mushroom hike. We saw at least 25 different types of mushrooms on this beautiful 4 mile hike. Now if you know me, you know I don't like to hike, but....I love mushrooms! I love to paint them, eat them, I have them hanging all around my house! Of course I'm obsessed with the red ones with white polka dots. Here's the funny thing...all my life I didn't know they were real! Come along with us on our hike.... There were beautiful butterflies everywhere, the sun was shining, and the air was so crisp after the rain! The only mushrooms we ate today were the chocolate ones! If you get a chance in the next couple of days head out the Washburn Trail in Cambria and enjoy all of the fairy houses! HapPy gO HiKe! See you on our next adventure, Barb & Maureen this time! Betsey stayed home!
The CowParade is coming to San Luis Obispo County! This international “moo-ving” public art exhibit will showcase 101 (for Highway 101) of these life-size, 120-pound, fiberglass works of art. Taking place September 2016 – May 2017, the event gives local artists a chance to showcase, our region’s agricultural history, arts scene and its ecotourism make the perfect conduit for a countywide event that will involve, unite and benefit the whole community. AND…drum roll please – Cayucos is hosting a cow named “Happy!” Sponsored by the Visitors Alliance of Cayucos, HapPy gO SmiLe, Shoreline Inn, Sea Shanty and the Negranti Family, look for Happy in the 4th of July parade. Please go to HapPy gO SmiLe or Shoreline Inn’s Facebook or www.cowparadeslo.com for more information. Artist, Natellie Saia, painted Happy The Cayucos Cow by applying several layers of paint. As the paint was applied it would run down the cow to create this unique affect. As each color was applied on top of the next color new colors were created! By carefully selecting where the paint was placed the landscape was created. About the artist, Natellie Saia I am a working installation artist with a passion for painting and the Central Coast. I am excited to merge these two things in this project. Cayucos is an iconic example of the majestic coast meeting the rolling green hills that create such a breathtaking scene down California’s coastline. I hope to capture the vibrancy of this snapshot that holds the heart of those passing through along with those who are blessed with this view on a daily basis. We are so proud to be part of this amazing event and to host a cow in Cayucos. There’s still opportunity for your business to support Happy, the Cayucos Cow; to make a donation, please see Barb at HapPy gO SmiLe.
How it works..... The CowParade calls on sponsors large and small to commission artists to create original works of art on blank acrylic cow “canvases” for display around the county. Artists range from the amateur and unknown to the professional and renowned. The herd will then be unleashed to graze in various high-traffic locations around the San Luis Obispo County from September 2016 to April 2017 for tourists and locals alike to enjoy. The mooving exhibit will culminate in a gala and auction, with net proceeds benefiting multiple local charities. A little more info from their website about the CowParade.....CowParade is the largest and most successful public art event in the world. CowParade events have been staged in 79 cities worldwide since 1999 including Chicago (1999), New York City (2000), London (2002), Tokyo (2003), and Brussels (2003). Dublin (2003), Prague (2004), and Stockholm (2004), Mexico City (2005), Sao Paulo (2005), Buenos Aires (2006), Boston (2006) Paris (2006), Milan (2007), Istanbul (2007), Taipei (2009), Margaret River, Australia (2010), Austin (2011) and North Carolina (2012), Hong Kong (2013), Valenciennes (2013), Hartford (2014-2015), Detroit (2014), Cartagena (2015).
