Here we go...hop in and join me for "The Junking Trail Part 2"! We started at The Cottage in Paso Robles and then headed all the way down to Buellton. The Cottage is a must when looking for that perfect treasure. Rachel Ashwell recently stopped there and found a few treasures herself! Next stop Pink Trash & Treasures! Look at that darling trailer! Also check out the out house behind the shop! To cute! From Buellton we headed to Solvang. First stop Serendipity, where I met the adorable shop owner! When in Solvang aebleskivers are a must! Stopped by A Piece Of the Past before we headed home. Met the fun shop owner and saw some of my favorite customers there! They were buying chalk paint to redo a table, getting ready to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary! Then this past weekend was The Three Speckled Hens Show! All I can say is WOW! The theme of the show was Something Old, Something New. There were beautiful vintage wedding gowns throughout the event. The one on the left is from Ruby Rose in San Luis Obispo, if you are looking for a dress! Found lots of cute treasures at The Junk Girls, Wildflower 57, Polly Jane's, and Lisa and Lynn's booths! The cherry jacket is made by Jill Dufau Vintage Textile Arts! HapPy gO Junking! Wishing you much success on your junking adventures, Barb & Betsey

For more details about this special day check out their website at www.thejunkingtrail.com. Junk on my friends....Barb & Betsey To kick off the festivities for the Cayucos Sea Glass Festival this coming weekend, merchants around town have created beautiful mermaids to display outside of their shops. We were fortunate enough to have Coast Union High School Senior, Ben Sanford, create our lovely mermaid. He made her in his 3D design art class. She is made of paper machey and plaster. The mermaids will be displayed for the entire month of March. Stop by HapPy gO SmiLe and pick up a map! There are 36 mermaids in town! Here are a few mermaids I spotted around town. This beauty and her seahorse were at The Sea Shanty. This lovely, mosaic maiden was swimming by the Aloha Spa. Our mixed media paint & collage class for the month of March will be to paint your inner mermaid! Space is limited so reserve your spot today! Local artist, Debbie Graft, will have a large selection of her jewelry for sale this weekend. Stop by the shop and meet her! Hope you can join us for all the festivities this weekend! Looking forward to seeing all of you. A huge thank you to all the ladies who make this event such a big success. Smiles, Barb & Betsey Took our HapPy gO SmiLe show on the road for the weekend! Sisters On The Fly is an amazing group of women who love to have fun! We rented the cutest little trailer from Tinkertin Trailer Co. I was invited to teach our mixed media paint & collage class at the Lopez Lake. “Sisters on the Fly”,SOTF, is the largest outdoor women’s group in the United States. Its membership-based community supports women in their journey to get up, get out and become more adventurous!" The group was started in 1999, by 2 sisters and now has over 5000 members! Members come from all walks of life; mothers, sisters, wives, teachers, lawyers, etc. Now let's talk about the vintage trailers the Sister's restore. I'm talking cuteness overload! These creative, talented ladies paint, sew, and decorate their trailers without missing a single detail. They also tow and park their own trailers! There motto is "We have more fun than anyone"! It's true, I had a great time! These are my kind of peeps. So, I made it official I'm a member now. Sister #5499! I'll be turning 50 next week and thought what a perfect way to start it off! Until our next adventure, Barb & Betsey
HapPy gO word. Do you have a word for the year? In almost every art class I've taught this year when I ask people to choose a word at least one person says oh my word for the year is " "! This year I decided to pick a word for the year, it's brave. We had a contest on our HapPy gO SmiLe facebook page to win a mixed media paint & collage class....and the winner is Jennifer Everett. Her word is trust! Come paint your word with us! There are so many fun things you can do with your word to inspire you! After I painted my word, I took a little trip up to Cambria to visit the Junkgirls and had a custom bracelet hand stamped with my word on it! You can have your word stamped on a bracelet or necklace! I found a fun app called word pack where you enter your word in a shape and it creates this fun image for you! Linda's word is breathe! You can have your word custom printed at HapPy gO SmiLe on a shirt, pillow, or coming soon a custom banner!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! I love everything about the holidays from old traditions to creating new ones. What are some of your traditions? Will you create new ones this year? One of my favorite traditions is planting Amaryllis bulbs. They look so pretty mixed in with the decorations! Books, movies, music..it all makes me happy, happy, happy! The lighted boat parade is another fun family tradition! Spending time with each other is what I love most, whether we are creating art, cooking yummy food, or just hanging out! and OHHHH the decorations.... I truly love decorating for Christmas. It's just so magical! I love red so much that I almost want to paint everything red. - Alexander Calder REALLY? A man after my own heart! After reading that quote how could I not register for the class! Recently, I took a class at The San Jose Museum Of Art based on Alexander Calder's mobile theory. He was the first one to put motion to stationary sculpture. Big Red, seen here, created in 1959, is made out of metal, wire, and paint. Momentum, an experiment in the unexpected. We were challenged in the class to create a mobile that moved. Harder then it sounds! Big Red is amazing because it not only moves vertically, but horizontally as well. Well, let's get started! First we learned how to straighten wire and twist it to make it stronger by attaching it to a drill. Then we got to choose from all kinds of cool stuff to build our mobile from. After lots of experimenting...voila, I found balance and motion in my mobile! Like in life we must find balance and motion, my wish for you during this holiday season is exactly that! Whether it's spending time with family and friends, cooking, decorating, or taking good care of yourself have a blessed season. Much love & balance, Barb & Betsey Kudos to my daughter, Natellie for doing a great job teaching the class. All of the students had success in creating a mobile that moved! Just got back from the most amazing weekend! It's hard to put into words the experience, but I'm going to try! This was the 4th time I've seen Oprah, this time was very different then the previous times. All of the presenters spoke about their spiritual journeys. Joining Oprah was, from left to right, Iyanla Vanzant, Rob Bell, Deepak Chopra, and Elizabeth Gilbert. That's a whole lotta awesome on one stage. Each speaker spoke for about 2 hours. So, that's why when you ask me what did I get out of the weekend it's hard to sum it up in a few sentences! There was so much to learn and be inspired by, I took something away from each guest. One might imagine this event to be a very quite, calm, reflective sort of event. At times it was, but most of the weekend it was a high energy dance party! DJ Kimm rocked the house, lots of dancing and signing, and even an aerobic workout with Soulcycle! We also had these fun interactive bracelets that changed colors!
“Dancing With the Stars” finalist Amy Purdy awarded the Toyota’s “Standing O-Vation” award which celebrates remarkable women who are not only making the world a better place, but also motivating others to spark their own journey of personal change. Amy's story of determination was off the charts! She will not let having both her legs amputated slow her down. NO WAY! She said while the other contestants on the show were trying to figure out what shoes to wear she was figuring out which feet to wear! She has even customized her snowboard so she can still fly down the slopes! GO AMY! David Oyelowo spoke about how he followed and listened to that little voice inside his head and landed his upcoming role in the movie Selma. We meditated with Deepak, we prayed with Rob, we laughed so hard with Iyanla, and visualized with Oprah. Since this was the last stop on the tour we were also fortunate enough to hear the gifts the speakers gave Oprah. The gift of their words. The common thread from each person's story was to shine your true authentic light. It's all about choices, beginning still enough to listen, and brave enough to take action! Adventure on in your big, happy, crazy, authentic LIFE~Barb & Betsey! The little elves arrived early to prepare for our very special day, Susan Branch is coming! They worked their magic to create the most beautiful fall atmosphere for our Susan Branch book signing! Susan settled in and started signing books and meeting her girlfriends. Susan has touched so many people's lives with her inspiring words and art work. She is a beautiful soul filled with so much love and kindness. She took the time to listen to everyone's story. She has touched many hearts. Stranded In Morro Bay Vintage Trailer Rally. Last October some of you may remember we bought HapPy gO gO. Jeri and his friend Rick have been restoring her. She wasn't quite finished so our friend's John & Stephanie loaned us their adorable Jewel. The trailer rally was held at the beautiful Morro Bay State Park this year. On Saturday the trailer's were open for viewing. This is my friends, Bonnie and Tom's darling trailer. My quilting buddy, Priscilla's CHERRY trailer! She loves cherries as much as I do and look at that RED sewing machine! HapPy gO gO wasn't quite ready to go.....she will be by next year's show though!
